The Sacramento State Aquatic Center is a cooperative operation of the Associated Students Inc. of California State University, Sacramento, the University Union of Sac State, California Division of Boating and Waterways, and the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The center was established in 1981 and has provided instruction to thousands of students. The center offers university kinesiology classes, leisure classes for the general public, competitive teams, and a series of progressive summer camps and youth programs. The center was established to augment the academic curriculum at Sacramento State. The Aquatic Center is open to students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Sac State as well as the general public. All students, faculty, staff, and alumni of Sac State receive a discount with their Sac State identification card. Our facility occupies eight acres of land and is one of the finest in the state. Features include: beach area, picnic tables, barbeques, four docks, classrooms, and convenient parking.

The Aquatic Center is a regional boating instruction safety center as part of a program funded by the California Department of Boating and Waterways. The Department of Boating and Waterways funds boating facilities, boating safety education, and supports boating law enforcement in California. A portion of the equipment at the center is provided by the department to enhance boating safety education in California.

Focus on Safety

The National Safe Boating Council and Western States Boating Administrators Association (WSBAA) awarded the Boating Education Advancement Award (BEAA) to Sacramento State Aquatic Center. This award recognizes organizations that have developed and successfully implemented programs that:

  • Enhance the image and recognition of boating safety efforts
  • Share success stories for the betterment of safe boating
  • Create a closer partnership between national, state and local boating education organizations
  • Promote the theme of the National Safe Boating Campaign

Community Support

The Aquatic Center has been the cooperative effort of California State University, Sacramento, Associated Students Inc., The University Union, California Department of Boating and Waterways, California Department of Parks and Recreation, Bureau of Reclamation, and the Community that has made us a nationally recognized facility.

It is our mission to provide the highest quality boating instruction through education, recreation, and competition. In that pursuit of excellence, we solicit your continued support. Volunteer with Us!

COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING PROGRAM (C.I.T)

Aquatic Center previous campers ages 14 to 17 invited to participate in our C.I.T program is an amazing opportunity to learn teamwork, responsibility, and the satisfaction that accompanies a job well done.  CITs not only help create outstanding experiences for our campers, they develop many amazing memories of their own.  Interviews for these volunteers positions will take place in May.
